Frequently Asked Questions

Are the  doctors used licensed and credentialed?

Yes. All are fully licensed by the Thai Medical Council to practice their specialty in Thailand. In addition, many are Board Certified in their specialty in the US, Australia, or Europe. We also ensure the hospitals credentialing process requires a formal review of each doctor’s qualifications and track record by the Credentials and Bylaws Committee and the Hospital’s Medical Executive Committee. These reviews take place before a doctor is appointed to the medical staff.

A summary of each physician’s qualifications is available to you.

Are any of the doctors internationally trained?

Yes. Many of the surgeons we use are US-board certified, and many others were trained and certified in Europe, Japan, or Australia.

Will I have trouble communicating?

English is widely spoken in the hospitals we use. You will be able to communicate in English with doctors, medical and customer service staff. Additionally there are  interpreters to help patients who speak other languages.

What about the quality /standards of the hospitals?

Plastic Surgery Thailand  arranges your procedures in private hospitals that are more akin to staying in a five star hotel. Whilst the hospitals are amazing we ensure that we are only using hospitals that hold the highest International accreditation with facilities second to none.

We have visited the hospitals many times and received weekly feedback from returning clients hence we are confident of the high standards of the hospital.

What training and licensing do hospital nurses, pharmacists, imaging and lab technicians receive?

Nurses, pharmacists, imaging and lab technicians must undergo schooling and pass certification exams to obtain licenses to practice in Thailand. Nurses are re-certified at 5-year intervals. Those with special responsibilities (such as ICU nurses) must receive special training and be certified as competent in those areas. Thailand has programs where nurses also receive special English language training and ongoing continuing education covering a wide range of patient safety issues.

What are the most common medical procedure that medical tourism patients obtain?

Because of public health cover in Australia we find that the majority of patients obtain dental and cosmetic procedures, We are finding that the most common procedures are liposuction, breast enlargements and reductions, different dental procedures and hair restoration. However, all other procedures listed on our site are regularly obtained.

What happens if there are plastic surgery complications when I reach home?

We have not had such an issue. We believe it is important that your local doctor is involved in your decision, prior to travelling. In the unlikely event that there is a complication and where appropriate, your doctor could be put in contact with your surgeon and action determined.

How can I overcome my embarrassment about seeking information and advice concerning cosmetic surgery?

Your concern about your physical appearance is a normal human trait. We understand that you may be sensitive and we ask that you have faith that we will respect your feelings in what for many is a very big step.

Plastic Surgery Thailand deals with patients on a daily basis. It is unlikely that you will be asking for a procedure that we have not arranged before.

We can help you acquire a healthy attitude toward cosmetic surgery and dental surgery by giving you information to help lessen your fears and anxiety.

An honest appraisal of the likely outcome that can be  achieved through surgery will assist in your understanding.

How much will the surgery cost and will I be able to afford it?

This is the most frequently asked question. Patients often select their surgeon, based on the lowest price that they can get for a particular procedure. Surgery in Thailand is already very cheap compared to home, the costs of most cosmetic/aesthetic procedure by board-certified plastic surgeon is very affordable.

The objective of each cosmetic or reconstructive procedure is physical enhancement or improvement in form, the success in each plastic surgery procedure is also dependent on your choice of surgeon. Your surgeon’s skills, training and qualification can make a significant difference thus, Plastic Surgeon Thailand’s experience in using only the best surgeons is very important and this should be your number one concern. .

Will I feel pain during or after surgery, and do I need anaesthesia for my plastic surgery procedure?

A patient who requires aesthetic surgery poses an unusual challenge to plastic surgeons and anaesthesiologists. Some patients are frightened and apprehensive, given the nature and circumstances of the procedure. Patients usually expect a smooth and uncomplicated procedure. It is the anaesthesiologist’s main goal to provide patients with a pleasant and worthwhile experience. Medications for local or general anaesthesia are administered for your comfort. The choices include intravenous sedation and general anaesthesia. Your doctor will recommend the best choice for you. Due to increased interest in pain management and patient comfort during and after surgery, there are now new medications or drugs that are available.

How long before I could go back to work or resume my daily activity?

Most cosmetic procedures require a certain amount of rest time that will allow you to recuperate. The amount of time will greatly depend on several factors such as the extent of surgery, your age and other medical conditions that should be taken to account. For a major or medium procedure such as liposuction, face lift, breast enlargement, etc it is normal to have a night  in hospital and then up to the balance of 5-7 days in Bangkok.

Can I see Thailand as well as obtaining surgery?
