Caitlyn Roberts-Johnson, Australia

Newborn Caitlyn Roberts-Johnson came to Bangkok   from Doha, Qatar with a severe birth defect in her heart in August 2007. The hospital’s capabilities were verified by the Australian Embassy.

Pediatric cardiology surgeons Dr. Preecha and Dr.Samphant performed a difficult and intricate surgery to the heart defect. The surgery was a success and Caitlyn has flown back home with her family. Following are comments by Caitlyn’s mother, Sharrell:

We made independent inquiries between London, Germany, Singapore, India and Thailand and found that Thailand was the most positive in outcome and would most likely to be able to perform the procedure.

Everyone from the CEO, Medical Director Dr. Peter Morley, the nurses, down to the housekeeping staffs have been helpful, accommodating and supportive to make my stay here most comfortable as it can possibly be. The hospital is like a hotel. They even sent flowers daily for me and Caitlyn.

I have the highest praises for Dr. Preecha and Dr. Samphant, whose expertise was so remarkable…along with their kind and caring dedication to Caitlyn. It is as if Caitlyn is their only patient. They can be reached at a drop of a hat. They came to visit her on weekends and their days off, too.

I appreciate all that the hospital has done for my family and I look forward to coming back to Thailand soon to have Caitlyn under Dr. Preecha’s care again.

What I can say about PLASTIC Surgery Thailand is that from first contact when I obtained an estimate through to booking procedures and the  medical operation, the entire process was  extremely simple and without issue.

The service I received was prompt and most importantly I received accurate information about what I should expect in Thailand. The surgeon I was introduced to was excellent and the hospital care was fantastic – nothing seemed to be too difficult for the staff.

All of this equates to making my medical tour a good experience.

The decision to obtain help from Plastic Surgery Thailand rather than attempting to book myself and hope that I chose well was absolutely the best decision for me.

And now I cannot believe how good I look. My new breasts are exactly what I wanted and I am now receiving so much positive attention. Soon I will travel again with Plastic Surgery Thailand

My new hair has given me a new level of confidence!
I had a holiday in Thailand and also hair grafts for less than a hair graft procedure in Australia.

I am so happy with the outcome. Thanks Plastic Surgery Thailand”

I was able to obtain eye surgery for a fraction of what it would have cost me here in Australia. I should have obtained eye surgery years ago.
  Goodbye glasses!!  and thanks John

Bangkok, Thailand>, November 02, 2009
I believe everyone one here has a valid point regarding the level of service and care. Plastic Surgery Thailand arranged a  hospital that  we found out was world accredited by a USA  Hospital Rating company that accredits major hospitals through out the world.

The hospital has resources equal to any I have seen at home Australia. They seemed to have the latest medical machines on the planet - bar none.
Before moving to Australia I grew up in Palo Alto and my parents both worked for Stanford Hospital. Although I am not a surgeon, most of my family is and I was premed in college.
My wife and I have had major plastic surgery done. The results have been exceptional. My wife was already beautiful, but she wanted to tighten up her skin (face lift) and have a nose job as well as forehead lift and eye lift.

I have had a chin work, and liposuction around the tummy.
We are not unattractive people. People told us we already looked younger than our 42 years of age, but that’s because we take care of ourselves and try to lead a low stress lifestyle. We flew to Thailand  for these procedures because we wanted to look the same for another 10-15 years.

Our surgeon was eminently qualified. We redundantly tracked down his credentials  and found him perfect. If you meet him, you will find he is as well spoken a surgeon as you will meet anywhere. He is also honest. Besides safety, communication is the MOST important element in these types of procedures. I do not know him outside of our procedures in the hospital so this is strictly a doctor/client relationship.
That’s all I can think of.
Good luck,

Dan

I am an expat and I think the hospital arranged for me is the best hospital I have seen or been in.. I have accompanied friends and the service is great [never knew anyone to wait more than an hour as a walk-in] and the care is spot on.. Equipment is state of the art – Atmosphere is Hilton Hotel.. I recently went for a heart check-up – mri, stress test, chest x-ray, they even sent me to a gastroenterologist because I thought I had a hernia – a nurse walked me from one examination room to the next!! – and there was an exam by the doc before and after.. and it was all  about $200. and as I had eaten already so I had to stop back the next morn for my blood work… In USA they wanted 4-7 days to analyze my blood – they did it in one hour.. – I think it is well less than half the price in USA and better, classier etc.. I have many other stories but suffice it to say that I am totally impressed with every aspect… and if it is medical tourism for you – you could not pick a lovelier country to be in…

….My wife and I have used  the Thai hospital  and I would place it above any Hospital I have used in the USA and my wife has used in Australia. All the doctors speak English. You are given a complete medical report in English.. Prices are very reasonable but may not be covered by some insurance such as Medicare.”

I cannot express enough appreciation for what Plastic Surgery Thailand arranged for me.
I knew nothing about operations overseas, but you made it so easy.
I gave you my details,   then the next thing I know everything was organized and I ended up getting operated on in what must be the best hospital in the world.
The surgery went exactly as I wanted it to and now my life has really changed!

You make it so very easy!
Thank you again,

Annita

Medical tourism: Have illness, will travel
STORY HIGHLIGHTS
Two to three million people travel abroad for medical treatment each year
Leading destinations for medical tourists include Singapore and Thailand
……..
By Mark Tutton for CNN
(CNN) -- Medical tourism is one of the hottest topics in health care as patients around the world are increasingly traveling abroad for treatment.

Josef Woodman, author of Patients Beyond Borders, a guide to medical tourism, told CNN that two to three million people travel outside their home country for treatment each year, while consultancy firm Deloitte calculates that 750,000 Americans traveled abroad for treatment last year.

The top regional destination for medical tourists is Asia, with Thailand Singapore, and India leading the way. Those countries are home to private health care chains that target international patients and are building modern, high-tech hospitals with a reputation for quality care.

One of the major Thailand hospitals quoted states it  treats over 500,000 foreign patients a year, with over 90,000 coming from the Middle East.
Parkway Health, a Singaporean hospital chain, says the city of Singapore attracted approximately 450,000 international patients last year, and in India, the Apollo Hospitals Group says it has treated more than 60,000 foreign patients in the last five years.

What these chains have in common is that at least some of their hospitals are accredited by Joint Commission International (JCI), the global arm of an American nonprofit organization that accredits most U.S. hospitals. That provides overseas patients with the assurance that their treatment will be of an internationally recognized standard. …………………..

For uninsured or underinsured Americans, low prices make treatment in Asia an attractive option. Surgery in Thailand and Latin America can cost a quarter of its U.S. price, and JCI-accredited Wockhardt Hospitals offer open heart surgery in India for $8,500, compared to around $100,000 in the U.S. and $28,000 in the UK.
In countries with state-run health services, such as Britain and Canada, long waiting times for surgery are encouraging patients to look overseas for a cheaper alternative to private treatment in their own country.

Each month CNN's Dr. Sanjay Gupta brings viewers health stories from around the world.
